Château Cantenac-Brown

The nose has cherry and violet notes. Tannins are round and silky. The 2005 is fresh, with a good length in final. It's one of the greatest vintages of Château Cantenac Brown. The turning point vintage, blended by the new owners. This exceptional vintage has much complexity. The Grand Vin is the blend of 50% of the crop. The long and sunny harvest has been stopped several times in order to leave each grapesort reach its perfect maturity and led to the creation of a complex, balanced wine, typical of the great Margaux. The elegance of the wine is also shown by its new label, which inspiration came from the records of the property: easier to read, more clearness to bring up all the qualities of the wines.

Wine Spectator

Shows blackberry, treacle tart and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with wonderful vanilla, berry and milk chocolate character, followed by a long finish. Needs time to develop. Best after 2010. 10,000 cases made.

Score: 91. —James Suckling, March 31, 2008.
