Eye : Red black with deep dark tints. Nose : Small black fruits, liquorice and roasted notes and oriental spices. Powerful and intense aromas. Palate : Powerful attack with important tannic structure. Rich and concentrated. Fully expressive of the terroir. Overall : Great ageing potential, structured and concentrated with a rare intensity of flavour and colour. Ageing potential: 35 years ... Food and wine matching: Exceptional wine, exceptional food, pheasant, partridge, hare.

Wine Spectator

Slightly firm at first, but then almost gushes with pure, silky raspberry fruit, followed by notes of iron, tobacco and semisweet chocolate. Beautifully done. Drink now through 2021.

Score: 94. —James Molesworth, October 15, 2006.

International Wine Cellar

($240) Ruby-red. Deep, smoky, earthy aromas of cherry, chocolate and licorice. Refreshingly bitter cherry flavor is joined by a late note of graphite and supported by solid but unobtrusive tannins. This has real power and grip, finishing with deep dark fruit flavors and excellent length.

Score: 92. —Josh Raynolds, January 2007.

Wine Advocate

The star of the 2002 La La's is the 2002 Cote Rotie La Landonne. Aromas of burning embers, scorched earth, truffles, and black cherries are followed by an unexpectedly deep, rich wine that is best consumed over the next 12-15 years.

Score: 90-93. —Robert Parker, February 2006.
