Felipe Rutini

Felipe Rutini Apartado is an innovative red bland produced only in outstanding vintages and in limited quantities, using individual components selected from the best barrels in the winery. This stunning red bland harmoniously combines the individual characteristics of each of the grape varieties. The nose displays complex layers of blackcurrant, plums and cherries, with notes of cocoa, spicy tobacco and cedar from the wine's ageing in new French oak. This medium to full bodied red is beautifully balanced with great depth, concentrated red fruit flavors and elegant, silky tannins.

Wine Enthusiast

Apartado, a high-flying Bordeaux blend of Malbec, Cabernet and Merlot, shows up only occasionally, but when it does it shines. This vintage is stunning; the black cherry and wild berry flavors are lively and honest, while the wine's structure is just where it should be. With a juicy steak or lamb chops, this wine will bowl you over.

Score: 92. —Michael Schachner, May 01, 2008.

Wine Spectator

A heavily toasted style, with thickly layered espresso and mocha leading the way for dark plum sauce, currant paste and fig notes. Rich and tarry through the muscular finish. Concentrated and well put together, but built more on power than anything else. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2011. 500 cases imported.

Score: 91. —James Molesworth, August 31, 2008.

Wine Advocate

The 2004 Apartado, made only in the better vintages, is composed of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot aged for 14 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple in appearance, it has a superior bouquet of pain grille, mineral, blueberry, and black cherry. Firm on the palate, this structured effort has layers of ripe fruit, good balance, and 3-5 years of aging potential It will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2025.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, December 2008.
