Forefathers is the first brand released by Goldschmidt Vineyards. It is a new idea in the area of winemaking that has not really been explored–the idea of using the greatest appellations from around the world (selected by variety) and making a wine representing those classic characters, but with a specific market in mind, and all under one label!
The Winemakers' Philosophy
These wines are the business of Yolyn Goldschmidt, married to Nick Goldschmidt, the preeminent winemaker of Simi Winery, located in the heart of Sonoma's Alexander Valley. Originally from New Zealand, Yolyn has spent time living and working in the wine areas of New Zealand and South America.
Yolyn has been surrounded by winemakers from more than 15 years, and has spent many evenings with Nick and her fellow winemaking friends from around the world, tasting both the differences and similarities in New World Wines. This gives her the opportunity to stand in other winemakers' cellars and not ask "how?", but "why?"�Yolyn believes that unless you talk to the winemaker in this context, she can never get a grasp of what a particular wine is about.

In conjunction with the release of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and in line with the Forefather's concept, there is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley, California, and a Shiraz from McLaren Vale, Australia.
Yolyn realizes that people can be intimidated by wine, so she would like to take some of that away. Here idea will allow American consumers to taste classic wines from ultra-premium appellations from around the world under one label, made with them in mind. All of the Goldschmidt Vineyards wines are produced and bottled at the source.

McLaren Vale fruit characters for Shiraz are wonderfully spicy, rich. and delicious. There are notes of plum, black pepper, eastern spices and soft note of sweet vanilla. The barrel ferment technique makes the wine fruit-forward, with sweet, ripe tannins and early integration of oak. more

Forefathers wines have structure, intensity and complexity. Only ripe grapes with excellent maturity and well-developed flavors are selected.
