Domaine Zind Humbrecht

The nose is an explosion of ripe exotic fruits, mangos, passion fruits, mixed with some more classic Pinot Gris nutty, and toasted flavours. The palate shows ripeness, but also elegance. The sweetness is almost more obvious on the nose than on the palate, thanks to some great acidity presence, especially on the finish. Like most Herrenweg wines, it is already very enjoyable and showing most of its potential today.

Wine Enthusiast

An astonishing nose of peach and bramble with refreshing accents of lemon zest. The intense, off-dry palate of pistachio, pecan and apricot lead to a long, minerally finish. Carries its hefty 15.5% alcohol well. Best now to 2016.

Score: 92. June 01, 2010.

Wine Spectator

This bright version is awash with textbook apricot, pear, honey and citrus notes. Racy acidity drives you to the finish, which lingers with hints of smoke and orange peel. Drink now through 2016. 467 cases made.

Score: 91. —Alison Napjus, September 30, 2009.

Wine Advocate

Noble botrytis elevated the sugars in Pinot Gris in 2007 to an extent that it did not in other varieties, says Humbrecht, and his 2007 Pinot Gris Herrenweg de Turckheim ended up with 15.6% alcohol and still - at 20 grams residual sugar - slightly sweet-tasting. Apricot, litchi, pineapple, candied ginger and orange rind, sauteed mushroom, and honey in the nose get folded into a butter-cream like palate, whose thickness and emerging caramel tone becomes almost toffee like in the wine's brown-spiced, faintly warm finish. After a year in bottle, the heat here was still acceptably restrained, and there was even a slight sense of invigoration from citrus zest and tactile spice. You could try pairing this with equally rich, sweet dishes; you could just sip it on its own; or you could wait a decade for the sense of sweetness to diminish, and the wine will almost certainly have held up, but will its alcohol by be more evident?

Score: 90. —David Schildknecht, April 2010.
