Vignobles Mayard Chateauneuf du Pape la Crau de Ma Mere 2011

SKU 21335

The wine is mostly made up of grenache and mourvèdre with barely a hint of syrah. Crau de Ma Mère is an excellent wine, both powerful and elegant and as sun-filled as its terroir. Its bouquet offers a complex palette of very ripe red berries and rounded tannins with a chocolate-flavoured finale.

Wine AdvocateAlso structured, yet with none of the astringency found in the Domaine du Pere Pape, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau de Ma Mere (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah) offers up notions of ground pepper, soy, black cherry, licorice and loamy soil to go with a medium-bodied, rich and nicely textured palate. It's a delicious, classic Chateauneuf to drink over the coming 4-5 years.

Wine SpectatorRather ripe, with raisin, plum, melted red licorice and warm fruitcake notes that flirt with jammy, though there's enough tension to keep this honest through the finish, exhibiting briary grip and toasted wood spice accents. Drink now through 2024. 1,600 cases made.
