The winery is located in the town of Puras, which sits on the border of Segovia in Rueda. All the vineyards are located in Segovia. It is not only the most southeastern area in the appellation of Rueda, but it is also the highest in elevation (2,850 ft). The soil is very poor and sandy and this area was able to resist phylloxera. The grapes for Nisia come from seven very old (up to 125 years old) small parcels of Verdejo vines trained in the vaso system. The grapes are hand harvested. The wine is aged sur lie and 20% is fermented in large French Oak barrels.

Wine AdvocateA killer project from importer Jorge Ordonez, the 2012 Nisia from Rueda is made from 100% old vine Verdejo. This 5,000-case cuvee was fermented in stainless steel and large format French oak, and aged sur lie prior to bottling. Coming from sandy soils and ungrafted vines (some of which are 120+ years of age), the wine offers crisp notes of tangerine skin, honeyed grapefruit and assorted citrus as well as a flowery character. Fresh, medium-bodied, beautifully fruited and textured, this is one of the finest naked, dry white wines readers will find. Consume it over the next several years.

Wine EnthusiastThis Verdejo is fruity and tropical on the bouquet. In the mouth, it's plump and smooth, with just enough acidic bite to keep things zesty. Flavors of melon, peach and pear finish solid and fairly long.

Wine SpectatorFloral and spice notes mingle in this silky white. White peach and candied rose flavors impart a slight sweetness, but the acidity is fresh. Clean finish. Drink now. 5,000 cases made.
