Chateau Deyrem Valentin Margaux 2011

SKU 23442

Situated between the villages of Soussans and Margaux, near where the Gironde becomes the Garonne, Château Deyrem-Valentin boasts plantings of naturally farmed very old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. All organically-farmed estate fruit on Riparia rootstock on double Guyot vines with six buds for low yields. Fruit is diligently harvested by hand, undergoing yet another triage in the winery before a lenghthy cold maceration and cold fermentation in Christelle's classic large cement squares. The wine is then moved to cask; one-third new and the balance in one and two year-old barrels for maturation. Très classique. Old-vine Margaux magic that drinks incredibly - the fruit is pure, fresh and filled with personality. Claret that reaches back in time.

Wine EnthusiastBarrel Sample. Soft tannins and a dense texture help to create a forward, fruity wine with a very juicy and spicy finish.

Wine SpectatorPretty lilac, red currant and bitter cherry notes mingle in this version, with a pebbly frame that carries the finish, revealing a pleasant iron echo. Drink now through 2016. 5,800 cases made.

Wine AdvocateThe dark ruby-colored 2011 Deyrem Valentin possesses plenty of black currant, cherry and earth notes in its spicy, medium-bodied, reasonably attractive personality. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
