Site Wines Red Blend 20122012 Larner Red Wine: This wine is a blend of Syrah (75%), Grenache (20%), and Viognier (5%). The syrah and viognier were harvested October 20 and fermented together in small bins, with a small amount of the Syrah and all of the Viognier being whole cluster. The Syrah portion aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak. The Grenache spent 18 months in neutral French oak before everything was blended. The wine offers black currants, cracked black pepper, charcuterie, and white flowers. The mouth is rich yet very lively, with an ample supply of soft tannins and a long finish. 50 cases produced.
Melini Chianti Borghi d'Elsa 2017Borghi D'Elsa has intense, fragrant and elegant aromas of blackberries and raspberries, with violet and Florentine iris notes. On the palate, the taste is dry, full, harmonious and slightly tannic, with an elegant aftertaste of toasted almond and fruits of the forest.
Dusted Valley Stained Tooth Syrah 2012Purple is our favorite color. You know you're drinking the good stuff when your teeth develop that unmistaken hue. As Chad's father Dr. Dan Johnson D.D.S. says, "Life is too short to stain your teeth on cheap wine." This Syrah is a Washington classic with fresh and vibrant blueberry and cassis flavors, shaded with mineral and pepper notes that linger enticingly on the open finish. It is also happens to share the name with Dusted Valley's infamous wine club, The Stained Tooth Society.
Yangarra Shiraz 2014This wine is all about texture. The meaty blueberry hint is sometimes like prosciutto or other dark charcuterie meats; the figgy base tones provide a solid base flavour, the cleansing natural acidity working with the tannins to draw the finish out to a delicious taper with a long aftertaste where those cherries evident in the bouquet re-emerge, sinuous and more-ish.
Pyren Vineyard Broken Quartz Cabernet Sauvignon 2012Cabernet is considered by many in the Pyrenees to be the regions strongest performing variety. Bright crimson-purple. The bouquet is very fragrant and pure, but underlines the question posed by the low alcohol: will the flavors be ripe? Well, it's on the cusp, but has so many good things going for it that it must get the benefit of the doubt. It is beautifully detailed, pure and harmonious, finishing with those dusty/earthy tannins unique to Cabernet.
Tenuta Belguardo Maremma Toscana 2002Made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with a small percentage of Sangiovese and Merlot, this wine dues its big character and ample body to the extraordinary terroir in which it borns. It represent the first wine of the Estate.
Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Costa Grimaldi 2009The result of an accurate selection of grapes from the Einaudi vineyard in Barolo. A great wine of the Langa, garnet red with a shade of amber, of intense and embracing fragrance, full bodied but smooth tannic taste, with a long spiced final taste. The annual production is of 7.000 bottles.
Rocca di Castagnoli Stielle 2007"Stielle" is an important red wine, deep ruby color and good persistence. It has aromas of ripe red fruit, black pepper, leather, tobacco and licorice. The palate is full, powerful and elegant with nice wrapping and tannins.
Rivetti Massimo Barbaresco Froi Riserva 2008Color: Ruby red with garnet red highlights. Bouquet: Ethereal with violet and licorice notes. Taste: Full, dry and velvety.
Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra 2008Clerico is one of the most respected names in all Barolo, and his wines are renowned for both winemaking of the highest quality and for exceptional character, deriving from outstanding vineyard holdings in four of the greatest crus of Monforte: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana and Mosconi.
Santa Rita Triple C 2011This superb wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carménère, three Bordeaux grape varieties that have been carefully grown by Santa Rita for more than 80 years. This wine benefits from the best of both; Old and New World combining the elegance of traditional grape varieties with New World techniques.
Taken Complicated Central Coast Red Blend 2014Super-ripe raspberry and bright red cherry make for a seductive first sip. This racy Central Coast blend has notes of cocoa and well-integrated French Oak. The wine is opulent yet balanced. The finish lingers with flavors of cassis and dried plums. Aromas of bright raspberries, red cherries, and strawberries jump out of the glass. Black tea and dark chocolate emerge as the wine opens. Blend: 64% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 2% Carignane
Forman Chardonnay 2011I don't think I can remember a Chardonnay made at Forman, there are 28 of them, that didn't start out with the pretty yellow-light green hue that this 2011 pocesses. That in itself says something for the consistency of this vineyard and what is done in the winery with these lovely grapes. One of the things I like most about what happens during the process of bringing fresh grape juice to finished wine with this fruit is its subtlety of expression; it never overwhelms, it just politely pleases without interfering with the food it might be enjoyed with. So there we are! The 2011 Forman Vineyard Chardonnay is another in the lineage which clearly states its heritage, it is unmistakably Forman. I love the fresh fruit opening without over-ripeness or obvious woodiness of this wine; it's just nicely ripe Chardonnay. Sur lees aging in older barrels gives it a touch of richness and complexity to the aromas. One also has to love the flavors. Very zesty freshness beautifully frames the fruitiness. This is a classic Forman Chardonnay. It's a baby now and has so many years to develop, too bad there is so little produced.
Chappellet Cervantes Chardonnay 2012A product of the amazing 2012 growing season, this wine is marked by great concentration and definition, as well as elegance and tone. The nose opens with fresh fruit aromas of ripe citrus, nectarine and pineapple, accompanied by notes of vanilla, clove and citrus blossom. Subtle hints of sweet oak and crème fraîche from partial malolactic fermentation add complexity and depth. Though rich and textured, the mouthfeel is perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. Zesty flavors of citrus, pear and stone fruits fill the palate and resonate on the long finish.
Chateau Genot Boulanger Mercurey les Bacs 2010An abundant wine, rich and full, with clearly marked aromas of terroir. Gastronomy: Shellfish, oysters, ris de veau, brain, pressed cheeses.
Domaine Thomas & Fils Saint Veran Tradition
Loring Wine Company Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010In general, our 2010s are very velvety in structure, with a density and purity of fruit beyond anything we've seen - while retaining a graceful feel to them. Hard to describe, but fascinating to taste. While somewhat similar to our 2009s, the 2010s will be a touch deeper and a bit more refined. If you liked the 2009, you'll love the 2010s!
Chateau Chasse-Spleen Moulis 2012
Château-Haut-Bergey Pessac Leognan 2009The preparation of the wine is done in a traditional way: every parcel of vines is separately prepared in small vats of stainless steel or wood with integrated hot and cold regulation. The wine is aged in oak barrels for between16 to 18 months according to the vintage.
Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Vireuils 2011Benjamin's wines hit you not with brutality but with force. The fascination with Burgundy is a fascination with minute differences, minute detail. From a seemingly uniform bunch of light-bodied wines, a ruby colored milky way, the Burgundy aficionado gradually sees an increasing number of detailed planets, then the planet's satellites, then the geography of each of the planets. There was a seamless transition between Pascal and Benjamin, barely noticeable. Yet, the wines are so unquestionably personal. They once were brilliant, strong and wild, they are now brilliant, forceful and relaxed. I have no doubt that it is both winemakers' dedication to biodynamics coupled with out of the ordinary talent that has allowed such detail to shine.
