Hailing from the Beckstoffer Georges III vineyard on the Rutherford bench, historically recognized as a formative vineyard for the Napa Valley, our 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford AVA is a perfect expression of its heritage. The nose is bold and inviting; cherry, blueberry compote and violets rise from the glass, with a dark core of milk chocolate preparing the palate for a taste. The entry is soft and supple while also commanding attention, with an abundance of plum and cherry notes that melt into the sweet oak, pie crust and Christmas baking spices on the mid-palate. The finish is seemingly endless, with the initially subtle tannins rising evenly to a crescendo. This wine will age beautifully in your cellar or shine in its youth with a two hour decant. Pair this wine with a well-marbled steak and some time to ponder the universe. Drink now through 2025.

Wine EnthusiastFrom the Beckstoffer Georges III vineyard in the heart of the appellation, this 100% varietal wine is immense in lushness, plush and alive in cinnamon, red and black berry and smoke. Soft tannins provide a lift and an enjoyable evolution to the finish, with a bite of heft on the last sip. This should cellar well through 2020-2022.

Wine SpectatorA rich, juicy expression of layered flavors, with tiers of blackberry, wild berry, black licorice, cedary oak, loamy earth and dried herb. Full-blown, gutsy and tannic, but the finish shows substance, giving this a long, lingering aftertaste. Drink now through 2026. 264 cases made.

Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon BGIII Vineyard in Rutherford has a beautiful purity of sweet crème de cassis fruit, dusty earthy undertones, a floral note and forest floor. Rich full-bodied, complex and spicy, this could turn out to be one of the best of the Cabernet Sauvignons from Hunnicutt.
