Domaine Ferrando Chateauneuf du Pape Colombis 2013
|Region||France, Rhone, Chateauneuf-du-Pape|
Wine SpectatorThis red sports a lovely beam of warm cassis, along with steeped plum and raspberry fruit flavors. Notes of singed mesquite, black tea and spice fill in on the finish, which shows a deeply buried bolt of iron. Rock-solid. Best from 2016 through 2025. 400 cases made.
Wine AdvocateFerrando's 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Colombis is a successful-looking Grenache, especially in a vintage where this variety struggled. Made from 100% Grenache (70-year-old vines) and from three terroirs (Colombis, Crista and les Roues) it was fermented with 100% whole-cluster and is aged 18 months in oak tanks. Checking in north of 15% alcohol, it gives up beautiful black and red raspberry fruits, mint and crushed-rock-like minerality to go with a medium-bodied, supple, seamless and elegant style on the palate. It's not a blockbuster, and certainly not up with the top examples of this cuvée, yet it still has lots to like.
