Alba Vineyard Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2016
|Region||United States, New Jersey, Warren Hills|
The 2016 Chardonnay was aged for ten months in 60% new French oak and comes in at 13% alcohol. Tightly wound and a little smoky on opening, this comes together quickly and beautifully. It is lighter styled-big and fat is not what you're going to get in this region as a rule-but it is focused and precise, with a nice finish. Even if it is leaning to the lighter side, it has reasonable depth as well. There is that touch of caramel, the wood popping up, but it handles its wood surprisingly well. This is a solid food wine, and the price isn't too painful. It is a pleasure to drink. The winery advises that this can easily age a decade. It might-but let's be a bit conservative just now.
