Ornellaia Ornellaia 2009 3LRipeness and elegance are the two qualities that can best describe Ornellaia 2009. Born from a vintage which began cool then turned hot, it was necessary to take painstaking care during harvest in order to preserve the grapes' crisp acidity and aromatic complexity. The wine's fragrances are generous and cleanly-defined, with rich, well-ripened fruit, complemented by chocolate and balsamic notes of aromatic herbs. On the palate, silky-smooth and spacious, with glossy tannins. A lively, refreshing acidity lifts a lingering finish.
Pyren Vineyard Broken Quartz Cabernet Sauvignon 2012Cabernet is considered by many in the Pyrenees to be the regions strongest performing variety. Bright crimson-purple. The bouquet is very fragrant and pure, but underlines the question posed by the low alcohol: will the flavors be ripe? Well, it's on the cusp, but has so many good things going for it that it must get the benefit of the doubt. It is beautifully detailed, pure and harmonious, finishing with those dusty/earthy tannins unique to Cabernet.
Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc 2016A light straw color, the 2016 vintage features scents of melon and lavender, layered with soft notes of wet stone that call to mind a late-summer rain. Entry on the palate is light and then builds, with flavors that are just on the edge of ripeness, from peaches to bright citrus. A flinty character lingers throughout, and the finish trails off with a balance of fruit and acidity, leaving a crisp and refreshing final impression.
Vega Sicilia Unico Artist Label 2002 3L
Pine Ridge Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Ruby red in color, this wine opens with alluring aromas of fresh black raspberry, boysenberry and ripe red plum, swirling with hints of red licorice, fragrant cinnamon and vanilla crème brûlée. Enchanting and luscious, the palate opens with dark ripe cherry and juicy blackberry that join with suggestions of white pepper, fresh mint leaf and berry cola. The complex array of flavors lasts through the long finish, supported by polished tannins and integrated oak. Food Pairing: Expressive and elegant, this exceptionally food-friendly wine will pair delightfully with a variety of dishes, from grilled skirt steak with salsa verde, to pappardelle with rabbit ragout, to Turkish style lamb meatballs. For a memorable cheese course, try pairing this wine with Cantal, a semi-hard cow's milk cheese from the Rhône region of France.
Jacquesson Degorgement Tardif Millesime 2000 1.5L
Yangarra Shiraz 2014This wine is all about texture. The meaty blueberry hint is sometimes like prosciutto or other dark charcuterie meats; the figgy base tones provide a solid base flavour, the cleansing natural acidity working with the tannins to draw the finish out to a delicious taper with a long aftertaste where those cherries evident in the bouquet re-emerge, sinuous and more-ish.
Jacquesson Dizy Corne Bautray 2007 1.5L
Ornellaia Ornellaia 2011 1.5LThe sun-filled, early-maturing 2011 vintage perfectly expresses the qualities of Ornellaia. The wine appears an intense, youthful ruby red. The nose offers rich fruit that is fully ripe yet at the same time crisp and lively, backgrounded by delicate nuances of balsam and toastiness. On the palate, the powerful concentration immediately impresses, as do the tannins, massive yet silk-smooth and glossy, which allows the wine to completely fill the mouth but with no feeling of heaviness. The finish, near endless, is deliciously pungent and spicy, with a welcome crispness throughout.
Dominus Napa Valley Red 2014Dominus Estate wines are made with an objective of purity, balance and complexity. Minimal intervention and restraint throughout the process of grape berry selection, fermentation and aging preserve the character of the fruit. The resulting wines convey the very personality of the vineyard. Dominus winemaking includes separate lot-by-lot fermentation. Cluster sorting by hand is complemented by an optical berry sorting system. Gentle pumping-over extracts aromas, color and tannins. Vertical wine press at low pressure delicately releases components from the skin. Racking barrel to barrel in 100% french oak removes sediment and assures clarification of the wine during aging. We recommend decanting the wine prior to serving to allow it to develop its full potential. This is especially important when serving young Dominus wines.
Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Chardonnay 2014Ripe peach, pear and cloves dominate the nose amidst a flurry of floral and honeysuckle notes. There's a wonderful fullness and weight on the palate punctuated by ripe melon, green apple, and fresh citrus. The oak contribution remains subtle with a hint of vanilla and baking spice. The density of the wine is readily apparent as grilled pineapple, lychee, and a rich creaminess linger.
