Tenuta Belguardo Maremma Toscana 2006
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Maremma Toscana|
Perfumed with currant and flowers on the nose, turning to tar and spices. Full-bodied, with polished yet chewy tannins. Long and flavorful, yet reserved. A fascinating wine. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2010. 2,000 cases made.
The 2006 Belguardo, the estate's top bottling, is Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in French oak. Super ripe dark fruit, spices, toasted oak, menthol, minerals and flowers emerge as this full-bodied offering opens up in the glass. Today the wine comes across as needing another year or two in bottle for some of the roughness in the tannins to smooth out, but the raw materials certainly seem to be present for the Belguardo to develop nicely over time. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.
