Paumanok North Fork Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2016
|Region||United States, New York, North Fork of Long Island|
Wine AdvocateThe 2016 Chardonnay Barrel Fermented was aged for eight months in neutral French oak. It comes in at 12.5% alcohol. This may talk about wood on the label, but it is really hard to find it, which is a good thing. The first, second and third impressions are crispness, acidity and freshness (all related, obviously). Opening a bit tart, this produces a little mouth pucker on the finish, but it seems so fresh and enlivening that it is a complete delight to drink. As it warms and airs out, it becomes more balanced, showing some fruit and smooth texture. This isn't very concentrated, but its energy is a plus. This is the type of wine that should be perfect in the summer of 2018.
Wine SpectatorStraightforward, showing a good beam of yellow apple and pear fruit flavors lined with honeysuckle notes. Judicious toast details show along the edges and on the finish. Drink now.
