Hawke's Bay is much warmer than Marlborough, offering a riper, softer expression of Sauvignon Blanc, as the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Decibel demonstrates. Sitting inland on the Crownthorpe Terraces, a little elevation provides cooler growing conditions than the plains where Cabernet and Syrah grow. This is a zesty little number with grassy, elderflower and gooseberry notes. The midpalate is gentle, offering more weight than you'd expect from cooler climes, but it remains fresh and mouthwatering on the flinty albeit fleeting finish.
