92 Points - Wine Spectator

Fantastic Ribera del Duero Reserva wine. Deep black cherry color. This wine has deep and complex aromas combined with notes of ripe black fruit and coffee. It is round, balsamic and long on the palate and has a silky texture.

"This red shows density and focus. Black cherry and plum flavors mingle with coffee, loamy earth and spice notes, backed by well-integrated tannins and firm acidity. Not showy, but balanced and harmonious."

Dark, bright-rimmed ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe dark berries, candied flowers and peppery spices, with hints of mocha and vanilla in the background. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering juicy blackberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. The floral and spice notes repeat on the gently tannic, persistent finish, which leaves a suave rose pastille note behind.

I also tasted the 2015 Torre de Golbán Reserva, which has a little less alcohol than the 2014. The destemmed grapes fermented with neutral yeasts in stainless steel, and the wine matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. The 2015s surprised me. I was told 2015 was a cooler year in the Atauta zone, and it's true this wine has less alcohol than the 2014. At the same time, it's more expressive and elegant, floral and open. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good balance. A very good 2015. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2017.

Reduced aromas of gritty berry fruits and rubber need all the air they can get. A tannic palate is tight and tough, with flavors of baked plum that run hot and heavy. A scratchy tannic finish brings this hard and tannic Tinto Fino to a close.
