The Carignan Vieilles Vignes is truly a Mediterranean wine. Its bouquet is intense and develops perfumes of small red fruit, black olives and wild Mediterranean herbs (thyme, juniper). Whilst being round and supple, the palate makes for a wine of immediate pleasure with perfectly melted tannins and an impressive aromatic intensity. A wine that will not cellar as well as the Mas Sallèles, but will nevertheless blossom for a good five years. This wine of strong personality will perfectly accompany character meats: game in wine sauce, braised duck with olives or roast pork with prunes.

Caux is near the city of Montpellier in eastern Languedoc, a rare appellation used by Nizas for this old-vine Carignan. It’s a big, bold, perfumed wine, showing the intensity of flavor that comes from these low-yielding vines. It’s smooth and velvety, with dusty tannins underneath.

Fleshy red, yet firm, with ripe blackberry and licorice flavors, with a bit of tar, which lingers on the finish. Shows good varietal character.
