Conterno-Fantino Monpra 2001
Wine AdvocateThe 2001 Monpra, Nebbiolo and Barbera with a supplementary 10% of Cabernet, deep ruby in tonality, offers important aromas of raspberry and cassis along with iris and dried herb scents. Tarry, toasty, and amply endowed with black berry fruit, the long and dense flavors kept in balance with a light, but useful acidity which adds to the momentum and freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018.
Wine SpectatorA pretty red with berry, cherry and light vanilla character. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a rich and long fruity finish. Good structure here. Best after 2006.
Wine EnthusiastStarts off nicely, with aromatic notes of cinnamon, graham cracker and mint. There's some solid cherry fruit in the mouth, but it gets a little swamped by oaky notes of cedar and vanilla, finishing with soft tannins and tart acids. The barrique-aged blend is approximately 50% Nebbiolo, 40% Barbera and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
