Charles Woodson Wines Twenty Four Cabernet Sauvignon 2010#58 of TOP 100, Wine Spectator 2014 Only 1,250 cases made Power meets elegance in this well-balanced rendition of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Notes of ripe fruit and dark cherries are offset by aromas of cassis and smoke as they unfold in the glass. Blackberry pie, ripe plum, and cedar flavors turn bright on the palate revealing a strong tannin structure and dense core. The silky mouthfeel is woven throughout each layer before melting into a graceful finish. The 2010 harvest was an exciting one that kept us on our toes by throwing a few curve balls to the valley. After three years on the dry side, we were relieved to have the much needed rainfall, even though it delayed bud break by a few weeks. The cloud cover that stuck around for the beginning of the growing season insulated the valley, eliminating any frost damage, which was an added bonus. Over the summer, temperatures were cooler than normal, dragging out the growing season and causing us all to be extra aware of canopy management so we didn't get surprised with mildew problems. However, thinned out canopies meant little sun protection when temperatures spiked to the triple digits in late August. We ended up dropping some fruit and spending extra time hand-sorting when we got it back to the winery. The extra effort was well worth it as the grapes that remained brought concentrated flavors with a lot of complexity that made one of our best wines to date.
Neal Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013Growing conditions during 2013 allowed fully ripe flavors to develop along with great chemistry in all of our Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. This is a blend of Howell Mountain, Rutherford and St. Helena estate property grapes, allowing a mix of various classic Cabernet flavors from valley and mountain conditions. The differences from each site's soil and climate, as well as a range of harvest dates from early September to early October, create a rich and complex wine without having to blend in other varieties. This bottling reminds us of some of our best vintages with comparisons to 2001 and 2002. Coming from a warm and therefore ripe vintage, this year's Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of cocoa, cassis and dark berry fruit plus hints of incense, earth and cedar notes from new French oak. As is our tradition, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with very dark color and a nice concentration of tannin that carries with it a firm, complex mouthful of flavors. The cherry (and surprisingly blueberry fruit) flavors sweetened by a chocolate character make the texture very mouthwatering. We hold the wine in barrel and in bottle longer than most Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon until convinced the texture has evolved and is ready to drink. This is a wine that will be greatly enhanced with decanting at a young age as evidenced by showing even better the day after opening. Additional cellaring will further improve the complexity and structure. Jarvis Cabernet Sauvignon 201390 Points - Wine Spectator Our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested from our hillside estate vineyards following a delightfully warm and lengthy growing season. The additional hang time on the vine is apparent upon first glance, with its dark ruby and purple hue that is absolutely inviting, with an enticingly eclectic bouquet of blackberry, mulberry, coriander, allspice and graphite. The vibrant and nuanced aromas lead to a mouth-filling and focused palate. The palate is supple and refined, with notes of currant, black olive, cassis and forest floor - flavors that exude 'classic' Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Bond Vecina Napa Valley Red 2011VECINA is coined from the Spanish word for neighbor. This is our endeavor with the property situated directly southeast of the BOND winery. The beautifully terraced volcanic soil slopes of this property reside in Oakville's western foothills. The 11-acre site faces due east and is the recipient of cool morning sun. Notes of black fruited plums and mulberries sit alongside glimpses of more red fruited cranberry and goji berries. Controlled and tight. Balanced taste, with sweet tannins and the right acidity for a dynamic long finish. Obtained from the vinitification of Sangiovese, its ruby red colour evolves to a quite strong garnet colour. Viticcio Chianti Classico 201694 Points - James Suckling Tasting notes: Brilliant ruby red in color, on the nose this wine offers scents of red fruits, plums, and violets. On the palate, it is pleasantly refreshing, with elegant and balanced tannins that leave a long finish of toasted and bitter cacao notes, which come from aging in wood. Will age well for eight years or more. This is the winery’s most historic wine, the first Viticcio label, made with a blend of Sangiovese grapes selected from our vineyards and rounded out with a small addition of Merlot.
DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2018The 2018 vintage shows characteristics that are rich and sophisticated on the nose with currant, black cherry, cedar and eucalyptus, and displays undertones of briary blackberry and wet gravel. Ancillary aromas of coffee and cocoa are rounded out nicely with notes of crushed sage and baking spice. Full bodied and formidable on the palate, offering enticing and juicy wild blackberry, Oregon blueberry and crisp black cherry flavors. Hints of plum and mulberry are accentuated with fig, black olives and fine leather. Excellent structure and harmony between the pure fruit core and firm, supple backbone of polished tannins. Finish is surprisingly elegant for a wine of such power. Silky and smooth, ending on lovely notes of sweet cherry and boysenberry.
Triacca Valtellina Superiore Sassella 2016#80 of TOP 100, Wine Spectator 91 Points Sassella is a particularly remarkable site - steep, stony and sun-baked. In the midst of it is the Paradiso vineyard, a veritable little wine paradise with superbly exposed slopes and a special magic of its own. The Nebbiolo grapes, which ripen here, give this wine a powerful structure. The soft tannins are harmoniously interwoven. Fruit aromas are intense but with great finesse. Sasso means stone, and countless small rocky terraces are one of the particular features of the site. In the middle there is a little chapel, also known as Sassella.
