This vintage gave us some very nice Petite Sirah. The summer was cooler than the previous vintage, but varietals such as Petite Sirah grew well in this environment. Our 2014 blend has fruit from both Lodi and Clarksburg, adding an element of both warm climate and cold climate fruit to the blend. Lodi, the warmer climate, adds ripe, dark cherry nuances with round, supple tannins. Clarksburg, the cooler climate, adds blackberry with a bolder tannin presence that frames the finish. Barbera from Paso Robles adds some dusty, terroir-driven nuances with notes of fresh raspberry and blue fruit on the aromatics. A touch of Termpranillo from Clarksburg adds ripe fruit and roundness to the mid palate. A pinch of Rubired spikes the color.
Pairing: This is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed whether deckside in summer or fireside in winter. Serve with a burger topped with a blueberry BBQ sauce and an onion ring during the summer. Or in wintertime, go Russian with a big bowl of Borscht as the sweet beets and minerality would stand up to the deep flavors in the Petite Sirah.
