A beautiful, complex wine that showcases the soul and sheer marrow of the true Montepulciano, in all its earthy elegance and concentration. Blackberries, warmed plums and licorice mix with a hint of incense and pepper on the expressive nose-there's even a bit of white stone fruit aroma, a sign of serious complexity in a red wine. Fresh and poised despite what seems a bottomless concentration and complexity on the palate; more blackberries, black cherries and dark chocolate abound. The balance is impeccable, with the finish delivering rich red fruits and baking spices. This special selection of 100% Montepulciano grapes represents the cream of Nicodemi's high-altitude crop, and is aged in a mix of tank and older barrel.

Wine AdvocateThe 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Notari is an intense wine loaded with dark fruit. Sumptuous and rich, the Notari offers terrific length and an opulent personality. An element of greenness detracts from what is otherwise a very fine Montepulciano. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.

Wine SpectatorAromas of mahogany and crushed black cherry follow through on the palate, as sanguine notes fill the grippy finish. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 830 cases made.
