Luciano Sandrone Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore 2003
|Region||Italy, Piedmont, Nebbiolo d'Alba|
Wine AdvocateAs good as his Dolcettos and Barberas can be, Nebbiolo is the varietal where Sandrone really shines. The 2003 vintage has yielded a Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore that is atypically rich and alcoholic in its profile, with notes of over-ripe candied fruit, licorice, spices and minerals. It offers plenty of concentration and length on the palate, along with the hard tannins that are typical of the vintage. Still, it is a great effort considering the conditions, which were less than ideal for Nebbiolo, to say the least. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013.
Wine EnthusiastGiven the heat of the vintage, it's no surprise that this wine carries some stewed, caramelized flavors along with strawberries, cocoa and herbs. Round and soft in the mouth, with a supple finish.
Wine SpectatorAttractive aromas of plums and light spices follow through to a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and a delicate finish. Pleasing wine.
