Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc 2018
|Region||New Zealand, Marlborough|
Lemongrass and lemon verbena notes mingle with nectarine and citrus flavors, showing plenty of style and intensity, with a juicy thread of acidity. Drink now. 90,000 cases made, 20,000 cases imported.
Reductive and oniony at first, this aroma spends at least the first five minutes in glass overpowering the other aromas, but it does eventually blow off. In its wake lie notes of nettles, grass, bell pepper, lemon and grapefruit. On the palate, the reductive and vegetal characters slip away, making room for the fruit, which is bright and crunchy, nestled into a slippery texture and crisp acidity.
The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc features modestly concentrated notes of white grapefruit and fresh snow peas on the nose, a medium-bodied palate and a clean, refreshing but slightly abbreviated finish. Drink it over the next 6-9 months.
