Frei Brothers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
|Region||California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley|
Wine EnthusiastOpening on a hearty nose of clove, this soft, approachable wine is nicely textured and concentrated in black cherry and cassis flavors. It's firm in tannins and oak, finishing with a slight note of black pepper.
Wine SpectatorRipe and polished, with a sweet feel to the creamy raspberry and plum compote flavors, laced with singed vanilla notes. A faint herb flicker on the finish keeps this just honest enough. Drink now through 2023.
Wine AdvocateIncluding 11% Petite Sirah, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 30% new American and French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with exuberant crème de cassis, blackberry pie, bay leaves and cedar with wafts of cigar box and menthol. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a chewy frame and plenty of black fruit in the mid-palate, finishing on an earthy note. 39,000 cases produced.
